Bandits Kill Man, Abduct Wife, Children, Seven Others In Kaduna

Suspected bandits have killed a man and abducted his wife, two children and several other residents during an attack on Babban Saura community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack reportedly occurred around 1pm on Thursday, October 1, leaving residents in panic as the assailants invaded three houses in the community.

A community source said the attackers first entered the residence of an elderly man and abducted two of his children before moving to the home of another resident identified as Sikiru.

The suspects reportedly broke through the fence of Sikiru’s residence and entered the compound before attacking him inside the parlour.

Sikiru was said to have resisted the attackers and struggled with some of them before he was killed.

His wife and two children were subsequently taken away by the assailants.

The attackers also invaded a neighbouring house and abducted a woman and her four children. The woman was later rescued by soldiers and local vigilantes, but her four children remained in captivity.

Usman Adamu, commander of the local vigilantes, confirmed the incident, saying nine people were initially abducted.

He said the vigilantes received a distress call and immediately alerted soldiers, who joined them in pursuing the attackers.

According to him, the security team traced the bandits towards the Eastern Bypass area and rescued the woman identified as Maman Mubarak, whose four children were among those abducted.

Adamu said efforts were made to rescue the remaining victims, but the attackers managed to escape with them.

A neighbour of the deceased, identified as Anas, said Sikiru called him after the attackers stormed the community.

Sympathisers were later seen gathered at Sikiru’s residence when the community was visited, as residents expressed concern over the attack.

The incident comes days after suspected bandits reportedly attacked Kadaure community, located near Babban Saura, killing a man and rustling his cows.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the spokesperson’s phone could not be reached and he had not responded to a text message sent by the time of filing the report.
