The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered firearms, ammunition, suspected illicit drugs and other exhibits in separate operations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, disclosed this during a press briefing in Kaduna, saying the arrests formed part of ongoing efforts to tackle banditry, armed robbery and other criminal activities.
According to the commissioner, police operatives responded to a distress call concerning a suspicious 39-year-old man identified as Kenneth at Yan’Karfe Motor Park, Sabon Gari, Zaria.
A search of a sack allegedly in his possession reportedly led to the recovery of two AK-49 rifles, 228 rounds of RPG ammunition, 275 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition, five AK-47 magazines and substances suspected to be hard drugs.
Muhammad said the suspect remained in police custody as investigations continued.
The command also arrested three suspected members of an armed bandit gang, aged 23, 25 and 27, along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. The suspects allegedly confessed to operating in Millennium City and other parts of Kaduna.

In another operation along Kachia Road, police intercepted a motorcyclist carrying a sack containing 134 rounds of AK-47 ammunition. The suspect allegedly told investigators that he was sent by a notorious bandit known as Yellow Mai-million to deliver the ammunition.
Police also recovered a locally made double-barrel gun, ammunition, a handcuff, POS machine, drilling machine and security uniforms from another suspect in Sabon Tasha.
The commissioner added that 11 sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were recovered along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, while several other suspects were arrested in connection with alleged armed robbery, rape, attempted theft, vehicle theft and vandalisation of critical infrastructure.
Muhammad assured residents that the command would continue intelligence-led operations, patrols and raids on suspected criminal hideouts across the state.
