
The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has arrested 26 men and women during a coordinated enforcement operation in the state capital as part of its “Operation Tsaftace Birnin Shehu” campaign.
The board announced the arrests in a statement on Thursday. According to the statement, the operation was led by the Commander-General of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board, Malam Usman Abdullahi Jatau, alongside the Director of Da’awah, Imam Sirajo Abubakar.
Officials carried out raids in Nakasari, Hubbare, Offer Road, the Sokoto Central Motor Park, and Giginya Hotel, where the 26 suspects were apprehended.

Hisbah described the exercise as part of its sustained efforts to sanitise the city and curb activities considered contrary to the state’s moral and social values.
The campaign, “Operation Tsaftace Birnin Shehu,” focuses on enforcing public morality in line with Sokoto’s Sharia-based legal framework.
The statement did not disclose the identities of those arrested or the specific offences they allegedly committed. It also did not state whether the suspects would face prosecution.
