The Kano State Hisbah Board has screened 720 prospective couples across 24 local government areas as part of preparations for its state-sponsored mass wedding programme. The exercise targets 3,000 couples, focusing on widows, divorcees, orphans, and other less-privileged residents.
The screenings are being conducted in partnership with the Kano State Ministry of Health. Each couple is undergoing mandatory tests for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, genotype compatibility, drug use, pregnancy, and other sexually transmitted infections to ensure healthy unions.
Deputy Commander-General Mujahideen Aminudddeen confirmed that the exercise is ongoing. He said couples from metropolitan local government areas are scheduled to continue their screening on Wednesday at the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS office along Naibawa. Participants must present copies of their registration forms at the venue.

The mass wedding initiative was revived under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. It aims to reduce the financial burden of marriage by covering wedding expenses and providing financial and household support to beneficiaries.
