Nigerian musicians Davido, Victony, and Timaya have called on President Bola Tinubu to act urgently to rescue kidnapped pupils, students, and teachers in Oyo State and tackle the country’s worsening insecurity.
The appeal follows the abduction of 39 students and seven teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community Grammar School, and L.A Primary School (Esiele) in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026. Two teachers were killed in the attack, sparking nationwide outrage.
Reacting on X, Victony wrote directly to the president: “Save our children & Put an end to this mess @officialABAT.” He urged Tinubu to end insecurity and secure the release of all kidnap victims, with a special focus on children.
Davido said he was deeply saddened by the incident and the continued suffering of those in captivity. Posting on Snapchat, he wrote, “I’m weak. God pls take control. We can’t continue like this… my heart goes out to the victims and family .. this is messed up.” He stressed that the current wave of insecurity cannot be allowed to continue.
Timaya also released a statement calling for immediate government action. “We appeal to the Government for even greater urgency, collaboration, and action in addressing the growing security challenges facing many parts of our country,” he said.
The abduction has intensified public pressure on the federal government to strengthen security measures in schools and rural communities across Nigeria.
