
A three-storey building has collapsed in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, leaving several occupants trapped beneath the debris.

The incident occurred late Sunday night at a structure identified as Elite Five Star Lodge, located beside Tonimas Filling Station in the Amaokpala community, near Oko.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, emergency responders swiftly mobilised to the scene following reports of the collapse.
A joint security team, led by the police, immediately secured the area and commenced coordinated rescue operations.

Ikenga confirmed that some trapped residents were rescued shortly after the incident, while efforts are still ongoing to reach others believed to be under the rubble.
“The Anambra State Police-led joint security team assures ongoing rescue operations following the late-night incident involving the collapse of a three-storey building known as Elite Five Star Lodge,” he stated.
He added that the Anambra State Fire Service and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) responded promptly and joined in the rescue mission.
Several injured victims have been pulled from the debris and taken to a nearby hospital in Oko, where they are currently receiving treatment. However, the exact number of casualties and affected persons has not yet been confirmed.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and stay clear of the scene to allow emergency workers unhindered access as rescue operations continue.
