
The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State, Ardo Muhammad, and another man identified as Yakubu Isah have been killed in a gun attack shortly after attending a peace meeting in Benue State.
The victims were reportedly returning from the meeting when gunmen ambushed their vehicle at Okudu community in Otukpo Local Government Area, killing both men on the spot.
The peace meeting had been convened by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ohinmini Local Government Area and brought together Fulani leaders alongside representatives of the Ayunne community to discuss recent security concerns and promote peaceful coexistence.
Muhammad’s eldest son confirmed the incident, saying his father was attacked while travelling home after participating in the meeting.

Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri, also confirmed the killings, describing the incident as unfortunate and noting that it had heightened tension across the area. He appealed to residents to remain calm while security agencies worked to restore order.
Also confirming the attack, the Chairman of Ohinmini Local Government Area, Adole Gabriel, said the peace meeting had ended successfully before the victims left for their destination. He expressed sadness that they were attacked and killed despite efforts to foster peace in the affected communities.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said police had commenced an investigation to identify those responsible for the attack and ensure they are brought to justice.
The killings have raised fresh concerns over security in parts of Benue State, with authorities urging residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
