A fuel tanker on Saturday spilled its contents along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, close to the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road, attracting scores of residents to the scene.
The incident caused concern in the area as residents, including women, reportedly rushed to the location with buckets, jerrycans and other containers to scoop the spilled petroleum product.
Some of those who gathered at the scene were seen collecting fuel from drainage channels where the product had accumulated.
Despite the potential danger associated with spilled petroleum, including the risk of fire and explosion, residents continued to gather around the affected area.
The incident also attracted officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and personnel of the Fire Service.
The emergency responders moved to secure the area and contain the situation while efforts were made to prevent further danger to motorists, residents and other road users.
The presence of a large number of people around the spilled fuel heightened safety concerns, as any source of ignition could potentially cause a major fire.
