A 12-year-old student, Sopuruchi Ibe, has died after she was swept away by floodwaters in Ebem Ohafia, Abia State.
The girl, who was a JSS 2 student of Federal Government College, Ohafia, was reportedly caught in the flood following heavy rainfall on Friday evening.

The incident happened at about 6:00 p.m. along Eni Njoku Road in the Ebem Ohafia community.
Residents reportedly began searching for the girl after she went missing, but their efforts did not immediately yield any result.
Her lifeless body was eventually found on Saturday morning, leaving members of the community mourning the tragic incident.
The Publicity Secretary of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union, Ifeanyi Okali, confirmed the death and described the incident as unfortunate.
Okali expressed condolences to the girl’s parents, relatives, classmates and other members of the community over the loss.
The incident comes days after another flood-related death was reported in Abia State, where a 37-year-old trader identified as Mr Ejiuwa reportedly died after being caught in floodwaters while returning from the market in Ugwueke, Bende Local Government Area.
