
Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, delivered a commanding performance in Abidjan on Saturday, thrashing hosts Guinea 5-0 in the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup second-round qualifier.
Captain Harmony Chidi led the rout with a hat-trick, putting Nigeria in firm control of the tie. Akeem Busari’s side started at full throttle, with Chidi opening the scoring in the very first minute. She doubled the lead in the 13th minute to give the Flamingos early dominance.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi added a third in the 37th minute before Chidi completed her hat-trick five minutes before halftime. The visitors kept up the pressure in the second half, with Mary Dunstan sealing the 5-0 win with a goal in the 56th minute.
The result gives Nigeria a massive advantage heading into the reverse fixture, which will be held at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne next Saturday.
