Goods valued at more than ₦20 million were destroyed following a fire outbreak at a building materials market in the Jabi area of Abuja.
The fire reportedly affected Eda Plaza, located opposite Chida Hotel, in the early hours of Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Shop owners were said to have rushed to the scene after receiving reports that the plaza was on fire, with some attempting to salvage their goods as the flames spread.
An eyewitness said the alarm was raised at about 3:00am after his brother-in-law, who owns two shops and a packing store in the plaza, received a distress call from a colleague.
According to the eyewitness, the fire had already spread extensively by the time they arrived at the market.

He said one of his brother-in-law’s shops was saved, while another shop and the packing store were completely destroyed.
The affected businessman was said to have lost roofing materials valued at over ₦20 million, including some goods that had reportedly been delivered shortly before the incident.
No casualty was recorded in the fire.
The cause of the outbreak had yet to be established, while the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of filing the report.
