A female officer of the Man O’War Corps, Dasola Sanusi, has been shot dead following an ambush by suspected kidnappers along the Ibadan–Ago-Iwoye Expressway.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening as Sanusi and other officers were returning from an outing in Ibadan.
It was gathered that the team came under heavy gunfire shortly after passing the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria area, when armed men opened fire indiscriminately on vehicles along the route.
Despite the sudden attack, the officers reportedly managed to escape the scene, although some sustained gunshot injuries in the process.
They were rushed to a hospital in Ago-Iwoye for urgent medical attention.
Sanusi was, however, confirmed dead on arrival due to the severity of her injuries.
Another officer, identified simply as Emmanuel, is currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds, while two other female officers were hospitalised after suffering trauma.

The National Public Relations Officer of the Man O’War Corps, Ibrahim Bello, confirmed the incident, noting that the organisation had commenced an investigation into the attack.
Also reacting, the Oyo State Police Command said the gunmen were suspected kidnappers who attempted to abduct passengers along the highway.
Police operatives were said to have responded swiftly to the distress call, preventing the attackers from carrying out any abduction.
The police added that the injured victims were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals, while efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible for the crime.
The remains of the deceased officer have since been buried in Ago-Iwoye, as colleagues and family members mourn her painful loss.
