Roby Ekpo has pushed back against a defamation claim filed by his estranged wife, Mayowa Lambe, describing her demands as excessive and without merit.
Earlier this week, Mayowa sought N100 million in damages, a public apology, and a halt to what she called defamatory remarks by Ekpo. She claimed his statements had caused her emotional distress, damaged her reputation, and led to a loss of goodwill. She also maintained that their marriage ended mutually on May 11, 2025, and that no legal relationship currently exists between them.
Responding through his lawyers, Ekpo denied all allegations of defamation. He insisted that his comments were based on personal experiences and not made with malicious intent. His legal team argued that the dispute stems from a complicated relationship that cannot be reduced to a one-sided account, adding that Ekpo has evidence to counter her claims.
In the response, his lawyers stated that the accusations against him would be “rigorously challenged,” emphasizing that his statements were made in good faith and reflected his understanding of events. They also said he possesses documents and testimonies that contradict several of Mayowa’s assertions.
Ekpo’s team rejected the N100 million demand and criticized the two-day ultimatum given to him, calling it unreasonable and inconsistent with standard legal practice.

He has refused to comply with the demands and signaled readiness to defend himself in court. The response also indicated that he may file counterclaims, including allegations of harassment and reputational damage, if the case proceeds.
Additionally, Ekpo suggested he could escalate aspects of the matter to US authorities, including the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. He requested that all further communication be handled through legal representatives.
The dispute gained public attention after Mayowa recently remarried in the United States, surprising many who were unaware the couple had separated. Ekpo and Mayowa had married in November 2015 and had not publicly announced a split prior to the new development.
Tensions escalated further after Ekpo discussed issues from their marriage on a podcast, including allegations about Mayowa’s private decisions. In contrast, Mayowa has responded indirectly on social media, sharing posts that suggest she remains at peace with her choices.
