
An eight-year-old child has died while several other passengers sustained injuries after a commercial bus crashed and overturned along the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway in Anambra State.
The accident occurred on Sunday, October 4, 2026, near the Anabel Event Centre in Awka. The bus, reportedly travelling from Nnewi to Enugu, was carrying 14 passengers when the crash occurred.
The Anambra State Fire Service said emergency responders arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call around 3:30 pm. They secured the area, rescued victims and evacuated the injured passengers to a hospital for medical attention.

The affected vehicle, popularly known as a “tracas,” sustained damage, but there was no fire outbreak.
Sadly, the Fire Service confirmed that the eight-year-old passenger died in the crash.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid excessive speed and remain vigilant, particularly when transporting passengers.
