A 25-year-old man identified as Bakeru Iwal has died after part of a building collapsed during demolition in Otolo-Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday while demolition work was ongoing. According to the Anambra State Police Command, a section of the old building suddenly caved in, trapping Iwal, who was reportedly one of the workers at the site.
Police operatives attached to the Otolo Divisional Headquarters responded to the scene, cordoned off the area and commenced preliminary investigations.

The deceased’s body was evacuated to a mortuary pending autopsy and other necessary examinations.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, has directed that the circumstances surrounding the incident be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action be taken based on the findings.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
