State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Felicia Nwamkpuma, said the government has introduced a comprehensive rehabilitation programme to help the children rebuild their lives. The initiative includes skills acquisition training, re-enrolment of school-aged children into the education system, and safe reunification with their families.
She said the programme reflects the state government’s commitment to protecting children and improving their welfare through sustained investment in social protection and human development.
The commissioner also appealed to residents to report cases of child trafficking, abuse, exploitation, and violence against women and children to the relevant authorities, stressing that public cooperation is vital in tackling such crimes.
The state government further urged Ebonyi children of school age who are engaged in street hawking outside the state to return home and take advantage of the free basic education and other support programmes available to them.
Officials said the intervention is part of broader efforts to ensure every child in the state has access to a safe environment, education, and opportunities for a better future.
