Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has identified Argentina as the only team capable of halting France’s quest to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
France, popularly known as Les Bleus, have been in formidable form, securing their place in the Round of 16 with a commanding 3-0 victory over Sweden.
Captain Kylian Mbappé delivered an outstanding performance, scoring twice and further strengthening his position as the tournament’s leading goal scorer with six goals and two assists.

Didier Deschamps’ side will now face Paraguay in the next stage as they continue their pursuit of a third consecutive World Cup final appearance.
Despite France’s dominance, Wright believes only Argentina possess the resilience and competitive edge required to challenge the reigning giants.
Speaking on France’s title chances, he emphasized the South American side’s fighting spirit as a decisive factor.
“It’s going to take something special to beat France,” Wright said. “It’s going to take a team like Argentina because of their warrior nature.”
France were runners-up in the 2022 World Cup after losing to Argentina on penalties, and Wright suggests a similar clash of titans may be the only obstacle standing between Les Bleus and another world title.
