The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a warehouse stocked with expired baby wipes that were allegedly being repackaged and revalidated for sale to unsuspecting consumers.
The agency said its enforcement team discovered more than 240 cartons of expired baby wipes that had already been repackaged, while about 20,000 additional expired packs, equivalent to 625 cartons, were found awaiting the same process.

During the operation, one suspect was arrested, the warehouse was sealed, and the expired products were confiscated for further investigation.
NAFDAC estimated the value of the seized products at approximately N42 million.
The agency warned that expired baby wipes pose serious health risks to infants and young children, including skin irritation, allergic reactions, skin infections, diaper rash, and the worsening of skin conditions such as eczema due to the reduced effectiveness of preservatives.
It reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health by preventing expired and substandard regulated products from returning to the market. NAFDAC also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving regulated products to the nearest agency office.
