The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug traffickers and recovered a large quantity of illicit drugs during separate intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling drug distribution networks across the state.
According to the police, the breakthrough came on June 3 when operatives of the Special Enquiry Unit intercepted a Mercedes truck at the First Niger Bridge axis while conducting routine stop-and-search operations.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 47-year-old man from Anambra State, reportedly claimed he was transporting plumbing materials. However, a detailed search of the truck uncovered a hidden consignment of controlled substances.
Items recovered from the vehicle included thousands of sachets of Tramadol, Codeine tablets, Rohypnol, Swinol, and MDMA, popularly known as “Molly.” The suspect was immediately taken into custody, while investigators began efforts to trace other individuals linked to the shipment.

In a separate operation carried out the same day, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad acted on credible intelligence and raided a suspected drug distribution centre in Owa-Alero, Ika North East Local Government Area.
Two additional suspects were arrested during the raid. Officers also recovered several gallons of a fermented cannabis-based mixture commonly referred to as “Monkey Tail,” along with other suspected illicit substances.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were involved in the distribution of illegal drugs within the area. The suspects and recovered exhibits remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Commending the operatives for the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and other organised crimes.
He noted that the abuse and circulation of illicit drugs contribute significantly to criminal activities, including cult-related violence, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other security threats. He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and useful information to help curb criminal activities across the state.
The police said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected drug trafficking network.
