The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned the sum of N108 million to a Lagos-based firm following the recovery of funds allegedly stolen by two of its former employees.
The anti-graft agency disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the recovered funds were handed over to the company’s legal representatives, Karren Walters Attorneys, in the form of bank drafts.
According to the EFCC, the money was recovered during an ongoing investigation into a case involving alleged abuse of office, forgery, stealing, and diversion of company funds.
The suspects identified in the case are Nkechi Gladys Megai, who is reportedly on the run after fleeing to the United Kingdom, and Godson Eze, a former Chief Financial Officer of the company.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects allegedly exploited their positions within the organisation by forging documents and generating fake invoices using the names of legitimate vendors.
These fraudulent activities enabled them to siphon funds through a series of illicit transactions carried out over a period of time.

The commission further disclosed that the total value of the fraudulent transactions runs into several hundreds of millions of naira, indicating a large-scale financial misconduct.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Acting Zonal Director of EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Assistant Commander Bawa Usman Kaltungo, reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of financial crimes.
“The EFCC remains resolute in its mandate to ensure that victims of economic and financial crimes get justice and, where possible, recover their stolen assets,” he stated.
Kaltungo also assured that efforts are ongoing to track down all individuals connected to the fraud, including those who have fled the country, so they can face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The company’s legal representatives commended the EFCC for its professionalism and diligence in handling the case, noting that the recovered funds would significantly help in mitigating the financial losses suffered by the firm.
The EFCC confirmed that investigations are still ongoing as it intensifies efforts to apprehend all suspects linked to the fraud.
