Motorists using the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway are lamenting the collapse of a section of the access ramp linking the highway to the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway bridge. The damage has caused frequent traffic congestion and forced drivers to slow down to avoid vehicle damage.
The affected portion has remained unrepaired for some time, and recent rainfall has worsened the situation. Floodwater now covers the collapsed section, making it difficult for drivers to gauge its depth and forcing many to crawl through the area during peak hours.
One motorist, Suleiman, said the problem existed before the rains but has become worse. “When it rains, the hole becomes covered with water, and drivers cannot see how deep it is.
You have to slow down completely the moment you get to the spot. During rush hours, traffic builds up because everybody wants to avoid the bad portion,” he said.

Other drivers described the spot as dangerous, especially at night when poor visibility raises the risk of accidents and robbery.
Ride-hailing driver Joseph Okonkwo warned that the damage could expand if left unattended, noting that water flow around the area was already causing erosion.
Vehicles were observed moving slowly as drivers manoeuvred carefully to avoid the worst part of the ramp. The motorists called on the Lagos State Ministry of Works and other relevant agencies to carry out immediate repairs before the situation deteriorates further.
Attempts to reach the spokesperson for the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Adesina Odunuga, were unsuccessful as calls and text messages went unanswered as of press time.
