The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Saviour Otu Adim, over the alleged murder of his six-year-old stepdaughter, Goodness Ekpo Okon, in Bakassi Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was disclosed on Friday, August 28, 2026, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata.
According to the police, the incident was reported by a woman identified as Mrs Itoro Udofia, who alleged that the suspect assaulted the child, leading to her death.
Preliminary investigations by the police reportedly revealed that the suspect had allegedly accused the deceased child of being a witch.

The police said Adim is currently in custody while the child’s remains have been deposited at a mortuary for an autopsy to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for further investigation.
The Police Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and protect children from abuse, stressing the importance of promptly reporting suspected cases of violence or child abuse to the appropriate authorities.
The Command also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information or resorting to self-help, assuring that the circumstances surrounding the child’s death would be thoroughly investigated.
