Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have launched a deadly early morning attack on a Nigerian Army base along the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State, resulting in the death of at least eight soldiers and leaving several others injured.
According to military sources, the assault occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Friday amid heavy rainfall, which reportedly reduced visibility and may have contributed to the surprise nature of the attack.
A source within the military confirmed that the base, identified as the 162 Battalion, came under heavy assault as insurgents stormed the facility in large numbers, overpowering parts of the defense line.
“The attackers caught troops off guard during the downpour. Eight soldiers were killed in action, and others sustained injuries,” the source disclosed.

Additional reports indicate that the insurgents temporarily overran sections of the base before reinforcement teams were deployed to the area to restore control and assess the situation.
Security officials have since intensified efforts to secure the location, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage and casualties.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Nigerian military authorities.
This incident highlights a renewed wave of attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters targeting military formations in Nigeria’s North-East, raising fresh concerns over security in the region despite ongoing counterinsurgency operations.
