
Tragedy struck in the early hours of Wednesday as suspected bandits launched a deadly assault on Sai Community in Mbajir Council Ward, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving multiple residents dead and several others injured.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers stormed the community around 2 a.m., moving from house to house while firing gunshots that forced residents to flee for safety.
By daybreak, local youths reportedly recovered several lifeless bodies, while injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital in Katsina-Ala for urgent medical attention.
A resident, who spoke anonymously, described the incident as terrifying, noting that the attackers operated with ease as they unleashed violence on unsuspecting villagers.
As of the time of this report, the Benue State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack.
Reacting to the development, Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a senseless and cowardly act of violence against innocent citizens.
He called on security agencies to immediately deploy additional personnel to the affected area and its environs to prevent further attacks.

The governor also directed security operatives to launch a thorough manhunt for the perpetrators, ensuring they are brought to justice.
He emphasized the need to safeguard farmers in the state, particularly at a time when agricultural activities are at a critical stage.
“This attack is unacceptable, especially at a time when our farmers are working hard to secure food for the state. We will not allow enemies of progress to disrupt our peace and food security,” the governor stated.
Governor Alia extended his condolences to families who lost their loved ones and wished a speedy recovery to those receiving treatment.
He reassured residents of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging them not to abandon their communities despite the unfortunate incident.
Katsina-Ala Local Government Area has remained one of the hotspots for recurring violent attacks in Benue State, often linked to armed groups and bandit activities.
Authorities are expected to intensify security operations in the region as residents call for urgent intervention to restore peace and stability.
