Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered several firearms and rounds of ammunition during a security operation in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, conducted by troops under Sector 8 of Operation ENDURING PEACE as part of Operation HARD KNOCK, followed intelligence about a planned attack on Mwar Community in Chakfem Kingdom.
According to the Army, the intelligence received on August 19, 2026, indicated that suspected bandit militias were planning an attack on the community.
The military said the planned assault may have been connected to the alleged rustling of an unconfirmed number of cattle by some youths from the community.
Following the intelligence, troops were deployed to conduct fighting patrols and raid suspected locations, with the aim of recovering the missing cattle and apprehending those responsible.
The Army said surveillance drones and other intelligence-gathering equipment were deployed to search surrounding settlements and bush areas for the cattle, but the animals were not found.

The operation resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated revolver rifle, two Dane guns and 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The Army said troops, working alongside the police and other security agencies, have continued targeted searches and offensive operations in areas linked to other identified suspects.
The operations are aimed at recovering the missing cattle, locating additional illegal arms caches and arresting those responsible.
The Nigerian Army urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information about suspicious activities.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing the proliferation of illegal firearms and maintaining peace across Plateau State and the wider North-Central region.
