The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 10 students in Adamawa State for allegedly participating in the banned end-of-school celebration popularly known as “Signed Out.”
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Nyako Amidu Baba.
He explained that operatives of the NSCDC Safe School Response Squad acted on credible intelligence linking students from Capital School, GDSS Demsawo, Doubelli, and Damilu to activities considered disruptive and a threat to public order.
According to the statement, the suspects were involved in acts such as painting their bodies, tearing school uniforms, engaging in street fights, and other forms of misconduct that constituted public nuisance.
The NSCDC noted that the “Signed Out” celebration has become a growing concern among parents, school authorities, and the general public.
As a result, the Adamawa State Ministry of Education banned the practice in 2025 due to its association with violence, disorder, and other inappropriate behavior.

Authorities further revealed that this year’s celebration took a more troubling dimension, with allegations that some participants disguised themselves in suspicious outfits and reportedly robbed members of the public of mobile phones and other valuables.
Preliminary investigations also showed that one of the individuals arrested, although dressed in a school uniform, was not a student. In addition, some of those apprehended were discovered to be SS1 and SS2 students rather than final-year graduates.
The State Commandant, CC Nasiru Saleh, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to identify all individuals involved and determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to maintaining discipline in schools and safeguarding public safety.
Saleh also directed the Safe School Response Squad to strengthen collaboration with school authorities and relevant stakeholders to prevent future occurrences and ensure a secure learning environment.
The NSCDC added that it is currently working with the affected schools to verify the identities of all those linked to the incident, while reiterating its warning against participation in the banned “Signed Out” celebration.
