The Abia State Fire Service and other security agencies have joined efforts to locate a man and a teenage girl who reportedly drowned in an open gutter at Ukwu Mango, Faulks Road, Aba, Abia State.
The incident occurred on Sunday when the man, described as a good Samaritan, attempted to rescue the teenage girl from the gutter but reportedly slipped and was swept away alongside her.
Residents and other sympathisers immediately launched a search for the two victims but were unable to locate them before the day ended.
The unsuccessful rescue effort raised fears that the victims might have been carried by the water into the Aba River.
