A young widow in Plateau State has mourned her husband, who was killed alongside other members of a civilian watch group while defending their community from armed attackers.
The woman broke down in tears during her husband’s burial, saying he had chosen to remain in the community and protect vulnerable residents despite repeated warnings from her to step down from his leadership role.
According to her, her husband served as a youth leader and believed it was his responsibility to protect residents from attacks. She said she had repeatedly begged him to quit because of the insecurity affecting their family.
She recalled that her husband told her he could not watch members of the community being killed while he remained alive and able to help.
The widow said his commitment eventually cost him his life after he and other members of the civilian watch group were killed during an attack.

Her husband was buried in a mass grave alongside some of his colleagues who died in the incident.
While mourning him, she described him as a hero and prayed that God would forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.
She also prayed for his colleagues, identified as Barry and Danny, asking God to give their families strength and intervene in the continuing insecurity affecting their communities.
The incident reportedly occurred around 1am on Friday, September 25, in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Three vigilantes were reportedly killed in the attack, including the community’s youth leader.
Following the incident, women and youths reportedly protested by blocking the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway, expressing anger over the repeated attacks and insecurity in the area.
