Two men suspected of carrying out ATM card-swap fraud have been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command with 23 ATM cards belonging to different bank customers.
The suspects, identified as 50-year-old Yusuf Maika and 52-year-old Abubakar Mustapha, were arrested by operatives attached to the State Intelligence Department.
According to the police, the suspects, who reside in Jos, Plateau State, allegedly defrauded a customer of ₦400,000 at an Access Bank ATM in Adamawa State.
The arrest followed a complaint from the victim and a swift response by bank officials on September 7, 2026.Police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said preliminary investigations showed that the suspects allegedly targeted ATM users experiencing network or transaction problems.
They would reportedly offer unsolicited assistance, observe the victims while entering their PINs and secretly replace their ATM cards with similar-looking cards.

The suspects allegedly used a mobile POS machine to withdraw money or transfer funds from the victims’ accounts after obtaining their cards.
Police said 23 ATM cards issued by different banks, a Moniepoint POS machine and ₦400,000 believed to be proceeds of the alleged fraud were recovered from the suspects.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly revealed that they travelled from Jos to Adamawa the previous week with the intention of carrying out the operation.
The police said the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
