A protest has broken out in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State following the reported death of a young man at the General Hospital in the community.
Youths and other residents gathered at the hospital to express anger over what they described as poor healthcare services and inadequate facilities at the government-owned hospital.
The protesters alleged that the young man died after a medical condition they considered minor could not be properly attended to because a doctor was reportedly unavailable.
A protester said the community had lost a vibrant young man and called on the state government to urgently provide doctors and nurses at the hospital.
The protesters also raised concerns about emergencies involving pregnant women, alleging that patients sometimes struggle to receive medical attention because of a shortage of healthcare workers.
They further complained about inadequate electricity at the hospital, claiming that patients and their relatives are sometimes asked to provide money for fuel before power can be supplied.

The residents demanded immediate intervention from the Bayelsa State Government and relevant health authorities to improve staffing, electricity and other essential services at the hospital.
They warned that a government hospital should be properly equipped and staffed so that residents can receive emergency medical care when needed.
The protesters chanted, “Our lives matter,” while calling for urgent action to prevent further loss of lives at the facility.
