The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has arrested a resident of Meiran, Lagos State, for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel during rainfall.
The suspect, identified as a resident of Lanre Adefiranye Street, Baale Bus Stop, Meiran, was apprehended following a tip-off received by LAWMA’s enforcement team.
The operation was carried out jointly by the LAWMA Enforcement Team, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), and mobile police officers.

According to LAWMA Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the suspect has been taken to KAI headquarters for further prosecution.
The arrest comes amid intensified efforts by the Lagos State Government and LAWMA to tackle indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly the dumping of refuse in drainage channels, which authorities say contributes to blocked drains and increases the risk of flooding.
LAWMA has urged Lagos residents to dispose of their waste properly and avoid using drainage channels as dumping grounds, especially during the rainy season.
