
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Auwal Mallam Ari, in connection with the alleged robbery of N630,000 from two residents of Goneri in Yunusari Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest followed a complaint received by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Damaturu, on August 16, 2026.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Adamu Aliyu, one of the victims, identified as Goni Abdullahi of Baimari, reported that he had received threatening phone calls before allegedly being dispossessed of N130,000.
The police said preliminary investigations led to the arrest of Ari, who allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crime.

During questioning, the suspect reportedly disclosed that he and his accomplices had earlier collected another N500,000 from a victim identified as Malam Alarama, a resident of Goneri.
Ari also allegedly named one Audu Baimari as the leader of the group.
The police, however, said Baimari remains at large, adding that efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend him.
The command assured residents that investigations would continue and that all those found connected to the alleged robbery would be brought to justice.
