The Nigerian Navy has arrested a wanted militant kingpin in Bayelsa State and recovered an AK-47 rifle, three loaded magazines and a mobile phone during an intelligence-driven operation.
The arrest was carried out by troops of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB), in collaboration with local security personnel.
The Base Information Officer, Sub-Lt. Japhet Dauda, said the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement and activities of the wanted suspect, who had been on the run since security forces raided his camp at Fununu Community on August 6.
The Commanding Officer, Capt. Sunday Haruna, said the operation also triggered a pursuit of other suspected associates who fled into surrounding bushes. Some of the fleeing suspects were believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.
Haruna said preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspect and his second-in-command allegedly confessed to terrorising, kidnapping and sometimes killing civilians in neighbouring communities.

He described the arrest as a major step in ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks and restore peace and security in the area.
The commander commended the troops for their professionalism, courage and operational discipline, assuring that security operations would continue until other fleeing suspects are apprehended.
The arrested suspects are currently in custody for further investigation and interrogation.
