Public outrage has erupted following the circulation of a viral video showing officers of the Nigeria Police Force allegedly attempting to extort money from a traveler along the Lagos–Sagamu Expressway.
The footage, which lasts over two minutes, captures a tense encounter between the officers and the passenger, who identified himself as a resident of Akure.
In the video, one of the officers is heard demanding money—a request the traveler firmly declined.
“I don’t have anything here; if I did, I would have given you,” the traveler said.

His refusal appeared to escalate the situation, leading to a heated exchange. In a particularly disturbing moment, one of the officers allegedly threatened the traveler, saying he would have slapped and detained him if he were Igbo.
The remark has sparked widespread condemnation online, with many Nigerians describing the incident as both an abuse of power and an example of ethnic profiling.
As the video continues to trend across social media platforms, citizens are calling for an immediate investigation and disciplinary action against the officers involved.
The Nigeria Police Force has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident at the time of this report.
