
At least six people have been confirmed dead following a tragic gas truck explosion at an Army checkpoint along the Abuja–Lokoja Federal Highway in Kogi State.
The fatal incident reportedly occurred within the Chikara Division axis, causing panic and significant disruption along the busy route.
According to security sources, the truck laden with gas cylinders exploded as it approached the checkpoint, triggering a massive fire that quickly spread to nearby vehicles.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the driver of the gas truck and his assistant were burnt beyond recognition, while flames engulfed three additional trucks in the vicinity. The drivers and assistants of those vehicles also lost their lives, bringing the total death toll to six.

Emergency responders, including police officers, personnel of the Motor Traffic Division (MTD), and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), swiftly arrived at the scene to contain the situation and manage traffic.
The affected vehicles, bearing registration numbers from Jigawa, Lagos, and the Federal Capital Territory, were completely destroyed in the inferno.
Authorities confirmed that the remains of the victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Abaji, while the burnt wreckage was cleared to restore normal traffic flow along the highway.
As of the time of filing this report, further investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing.
