
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the unlawful possession of an item suspected to be a human skull, following a coordinated security operation in Ijio, Oyo State.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on July 9, 2026.
According to the statement, the arrests were made after security operatives received credible intelligence about a suspect allegedly in possession of a human skull.
Acting swiftly on the information, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered a joint operation involving police officers and personnel of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps.
During the operation, a suspect identified as Shittu Isah, a resident of the Kajola area in Ijio, was apprehended. The suspected human skull was recovered at the scene and secured as evidence.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Isah allegedly exhumed the skull from a Muslim burial ground within the community.
He further disclosed during interrogation that he did not act alone, leading to the arrest of a second suspect, Tunde Ajibade, who is currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations.
The police stated that the recovered item has been preserved for forensic analysis to confirm its identity and origin. Authorities are also working to determine the motive behind the act and identify any additional individuals who may be involved.
The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.
