Residents of Dass Local Government Area in Bauchi State have been thrown into fear following a series of suspected kidnapping attacks that reportedly left one person dead and four others abducted within the past two weeks.
According to reports, the latest attack occurred on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, when suspected kidnappers stormed Kagadama community. A shop owner escaped after the attackers opened fire, but three other residents—including a 10-year-old boy and a young man who had recently returned from the hospital—were abducted
A former member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Maryam Bagel, raised the alarm over the worsening security situation in the Kagadama and Bagel communities. She said the wave of attacks began less than two weeks earlier with the abduction of a local chemist, whose captors allegedly demanded a ₦50 million ransom.

Bagel also revealed that, less than a week before the July 7 attack, the gunmen attempted to kidnap another resident identified as Shahibi. She said he resisted, reportedly saying he would rather die than experience another kidnapping after previously being abducted about a year ago. The attackers allegedly shot him several times, and he later died from his injuries.
She urged security agencies and the Bauchi State Government to act quickly to prevent further attacks and restore peace in the area.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed that security operatives are aware of the incidents and have launched search-and-rescue operations.
Officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Violent Crime Reduction Unit (VCRU), alongside local hunters and vigilantes, have been deployed to the affected communities to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
