Fresh violence has erupted in Niger State after suspected bandits attacked two communities in Rafi Local Government Area, leaving at least four people dead and several homes destroyed.
The assault reportedly occurred on July 4, amid renewed tensions between Fulani and Kamuku communities in the area. The attackers stormed Anguwan Gizo and Anguwan Karaya villages, where they opened fire on residents before setting several houses ablaze.
Security personnel from the 45 Battalion stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Kagara were deployed to the affected communities after receiving reports of the attack. Upon arrival, the troops confirmed the deaths of four civilians and carried out patrols to secure the area and prevent further violence.

The bandits also raided Asmau Hospital, where displaced Fulani residents had sought shelter following earlier clashes. The incident caused panic among those taking refuge at the facility, although security forces later restored calm.
In response to the worsening security situation, authorities imposed a 12-hour curfew across the affected areas, running from 7:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., to prevent retaliatory attacks and maintain public order.
Security agencies have intensified operations in the area and are working to track down those responsible for the attack. Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel as efforts continue to restore peace.
