Preliminary investigations by the FRSC revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking, and dangerous driving. The agency explained that the truck driver reportedly reversed on the highway after missing his route, leaving limited space for the approaching bus, which crashed into the truck while attempting to pass.
Rescue teams responded quickly to the scene, evacuated the injured victims, and deposited the bodies of the deceased at the FOS Mortuary in Ipara. The damaged vehicles were later handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and clearance of the road.
Following the incident, the FRSC urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers and truck operators, to obey traffic regulations, avoid reversing on highways, maintain safe speeds, and use designated turning points whenever they miss their routes.
The agency stressed that strict adherence to road safety rules is essential to preventing avoidable loss of lives on the nation’s highways.
