Workers at the ongoing construction project at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos have alleged that multiple fatalities have occurred at the site, raising concerns over workplace safety and regulatory oversight.
According to workers and other sources familiar with the project, a labourer reportedly died on June 29, just days after another worker was allegedly electrocuted while carrying out construction work. The workers claim the electrocution followed an unauthorised electricity connection at the site.

The workers also alleged that poor safety measures, inadequate lighting during night operations and hazardous working conditions have exposed labourers to significant risks. They said repeated complaints about the conditions have not been adequately addressed.
Some workers further claimed that several of the reported deaths were not formally reported to the appropriate authorities, raising concerns about incident reporting and supervision at the construction site.
The allegations have sparked questions about safety compliance and oversight of the ongoing airport remodelling project. However, the claims remain allegations, and the companies and government agencies mentioned had not publicly responded at the time of the report.
