The Ekiti State Police Command has foiled a robbery operation along the Oye–Ikole Road, arrested two suspected robbers, rescued two abducted victims, and recovered six stolen truck tyres.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence gathered by the command.
Abutu said the incident occurred in the early hours of June 29 when three armed men attacked a faulty petrol tanker parked along the Ikole–Oye Road. The suspects reportedly robbed the driver and his motor boy of their mobile phones before taking them into a nearby bush, where they were tied to a tree.
The attackers later returned to the tanker, removed six truck tyres, and loaded them into an ash-coloured Ford minibus with the intention of escaping towards Kogi State.

Police operatives attached to the Safer Highway Patrol intercepted the vehicle during the operation, recovered all the stolen tyres, and arrested two suspects identified as Ezekiel Balogun and Usman Wada, both from Kabba in Kogi State. A third suspect escaped and is currently being hunted by security operatives.
The arrested suspects later led police officers to the location where the driver and his assistant were being held, leading to their successful rescue without injuries.
The case has been transferred to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit for further investigation, while efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Michael Falade, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime.
