Preliminary profiling conducted by the military indicates that the individuals are relatives of suspected Boko Haram fighters who fled insurgent enclaves in search of safety amid intensified military pressure.
Following standard procedures, the surrendered persons were documented and subsequently transferred to an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Bama, where they will undergo further processing and rehabilitation.
The development is part of a growing trend of defections from terrorist strongholds, attributed to sustained counter-insurgency efforts by Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai.
Military authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining operational momentum, noting that troops remain on high alert across the region as efforts to restore peace and stability continue.
