
Two people were shot dead on Monday morning after suspected terrorists attacked commuters travelling on motorcycles along the Okoloke–Egbe Road in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The incident occurred around 9:25 a.m. on June 23, as the victims were heading to Egbe Market. According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the attackers opened fire on the riders before fleeing the scene. Several other commuters managed to escape unharmed.

Troops of the 12 Brigade, stationed at Okoloke and Okunran, responded quickly after receiving reports of the attack. They evacuated the bodies of the deceased and immediately launched intensified patrols across the area to prevent further violence and limit the attackers’ movement.
Security agencies said efforts are ongoing to track down those behind the assault. The military’s rapid intervention helped restore calm in the area, but residents remain on edge over the growing threat of attacks on rural roads.
