Three suspected members of an armed criminal gang allegedly linked to the recent attack on the convoy of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Chief of Staff have been killed during a security operation in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the state-owned security outfit, Agunechemba, working in collaboration with the police following intelligence reports on the activities of the gang.
Security sources disclosed that the suspects were tracked to a hideout in the Isuofia-Igboukwu area, where they were reportedly planning further criminal activities. Upon sighting the security team, the suspects allegedly opened fire in an attempt to evade arrest, leading to a gun battle.
During the exchange, three members of the gang were fatally wounded, while several others escaped with injuries. No casualties were recorded among the security operatives involved in the mission.

Authorities said preliminary investigations linked the group to a series of violent crimes across parts of Anambra State, including kidnapping, armed robbery and attacks on security personnel. The gang is also suspected of involvement in the deadly ambush on the convoy of Governor Soludo’s Chief of Staff earlier this month, an attack that claimed the lives of security personnel and civilians.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG), AK-47 rifles, ammunition, a white Hilux vehicle allegedly used for operations, charms and other items believed to be connected to the gang’s activities.
Security officials described the raid as a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the state, noting that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the remaining network of the criminal group.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to improve safety and security across Anambra State.
