Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate while allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom money linked to a recent abduction in the state.
The suspect, identified as Muhamodu Sanni, was apprehended at a Point-of-Sale terminal around the Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led investigation launched after three people were abducted during an armed attack on Obudu Village on July 28, 2026.
According to the police, investigators expanded their probe beyond the scene of the attack to examine the communication, logistics and financial channels allegedly supporting the kidnapping operation.
The investigation reportedly led operatives to the ransom transaction, resulting in Sanni’s interception while he was allegedly trying to cash out the money at a POS terminal.
The police said the suspect cooperated with investigators during interrogation and provided information about his alleged role in the ransom collection process.

He also reportedly mentioned two other suspects, identified as Aminu and Umar, who are believed to be connected to the syndicate.
The command said the information provided has strengthened its understanding of the criminal network and provided additional leads for further investigation.
The Kwara State Police Command assured residents that it would continue intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting kidnapping networks and preventing criminals from operating freely.
The police also urged members of the public to provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities across the state.
