
Authorities in Yobe have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged killing and concealment of a newborn baby girl in .
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed that the suspects were taken into custody following a distress call received by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit on June 23, 2026.
According to preliminary police findings, a woman who recently gave birth is alleged to have been involved in the death of the newborn. Investigators further stated that the infant’s body was concealed in a box and later abandoned behind a mosque in the Anguwar Boka area of Damaturu.

Police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the two suspects are currently assisting with investigations as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, described the case as “heinous and inhuman,” stressing that the command strongly condemns any form of violence against children or vulnerable persons.
He reaffirmed that every child has a right to protection, care, and dignity under the law, adding that anyone found culpable will be prosecuted.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
