
The Inspector-General of Police, Olutunji Disu, has deployed tactical teams and senior officers to Plateau State following a deadly attack on Kawel community in Bokkos LGA that claimed at least 20 lives.
Disu sent the Assistant Inspector-General in charge of Zone 4, Dankombo Morris, to lead an on-the-spot assessment and implement measures to restore calm and prevent further attacks. Additional personnel from the Police Mobile Force and other tactical units have also been deployed to strengthen security in affected areas.
During a visit to Bokkos on Tuesday, Morris met with local government officials, traditional rulers, and stakeholders to coordinate the security response. He was accompanied by members of the Plateau State Police Command management team.
Bokkos LGA Chairman, Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau, welcomed the deployment and described the attack as a tragic and unprovoked act of criminality. He appealed for more security personnel to support ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.

The President of Women in Politics Initiative, Plateau State Chapter, Hajara Yunana, said the attack had deeply affected women and families in the community. She urged the police to back assurances with concrete action and called for the use of modern policing technology in vulnerable areas.
Morris conveyed the IGP’s condolences to the government and people of Plateau State. He condemned the attack as cruel and inhumane, and assured that police would not relent until the perpetrators were arrested.
He urged community leaders, youth groups, and residents to remain calm and provide timely, credible information to aid operations. Residents were advised to continue lawful activities without fear, as the situation had been brought under control.
The public was encouraged to report suspicious movements through designated police emergency and complaint lines.
