A mother in Ibadan, Oyo State, has raised concerns over the handling of an incident in which her son sustained a serious head injury at a primary school, alleging negligence and poor communication from the school authorities.
The incident, which has sparked public attention after a video circulated online, reportedly occurred when the pupil fell within the school premises, resulting in a deep cut on his forehead that required medical attention, including stitches.
The mother said the injury was severe and that her son later experienced additional complications, including pain in his leg and difficulty walking. She also questioned the school’s account of events, particularly regarding the absence of CCTV footage capturing the incident, alleging that a power transition at the time may have disrupted recording.

According to her, attempts to obtain a clear explanation from the school were unsuccessful, and she further alleged that communication between her and the school management broke down after the incident.
However, authorities who conducted a fact-finding review presented a different perspective. Marcus Williams stated that the incident appeared to be accidental following an inspection of the school and interviews with management.
Williams said the child was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and that the school also reached out to the mother during the emergency response. He added that officials observed a section of the school environment that may have contributed to the fall and subsequent injury.
He further explained that technical issues and power interruptions may have affected the CCTV system at the time of the incident, while noting that the school had implemented child protection policies and responded in line with safeguarding procedures.
Despite this, Williams acknowledged that communication gaps between the school and the child’s mother contributed significantly to the escalation of the matter, stressing that better engagement could have prevented the dispute from becoming public. The case remains under review as discussions continue between the parties involved to ensure clarity and possible resolution.
