A fire outbreak in the early hours of Sunday partially destroyed a residential building in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, leaving sections of the property in ruins.
The incident, which occurred around 7:10 a.m. at Obafemi Akere Street off Basin Road, affected a five-bedroom bungalow, damaging a store and one of the rooms located at the rear of the building.
Emergency responders from the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly arrived at the scene and were able to contain the blaze before it spread to other parts of the house. Their prompt intervention significantly reduced the extent of the damage.

Preliminary findings revealed that the fire originated from a generator set that was running unattended.
The generator reportedly caught fire and ignited nearby combustible materials, leading to the spread of flames into adjoining sections of the building.
Authorities have since advised residents to exercise caution when using generators, emphasizing the importance of placing them in well-ventilated, isolated areas away from living spaces and flammable items.
Regular maintenance and avoiding prolonged unattended operation were also highlighted as key safety measures.
No casualties were reported in the incident, but residents have been urged to adopt stricter fire safety practices to prevent future occurrences.
