
Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Enduring Peace have successfully foiled multiple kidnapping attempts and rescued no fewer than 10 victims during coordinated security operations across Plateau and Kaduna States.
According to a statement issued by the Joint Military Task Force spokesperson, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the operations were carried out within the last 48 hours following swift tactical responses to distress calls and intelligence on criminal activities along highways and rural communities.
In Plateau State, troops deployed in Riyom Local Government Area responded to reports of armed kidnappers who blocked the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sayin highway at about 12:30 a.m. on June 5, 2026. On arrival, soldiers discovered an abandoned vehicle and immediately launched a search operation in surrounding bushes, successfully rescuing six kidnapped passengers.
However, the driver of the vehicle remains missing, with ongoing efforts to locate him.

In another operation in Bokkos Local Government Area, troops disrupted an ongoing abduction after responding to a distress call from Faggem Village.
The attackers fled into nearby forests following military pressure, leading to the rescue of a pastor and his wife, who sustained injuries during the attack and were later evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
In Kaduna State, troops operating in Sanga Local Government Area engaged suspected terrorists who blocked a highway between Rafi Tagwai and Angwan Dariya. The attackers had already abducted passengers from a commercial vehicle before the arrival of the troops.
During the operation, ammunition evidence was recovered, and troops pursued the suspects into nearby forests, rescuing two injured victims while efforts continue to secure the remaining abducted passengers.
The military reaffirmed that Operation Enduring Peace remains committed to clearing highways and communities of criminal elements and ensuring the safety of commuters across its areas of responsibility.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing to track fleeing suspects and recover remaining victims.
